The Living Desert tackles key threats to desert environments—like climate change, land development, invasive species, and unlawful plant trafficking—through targeted preservation and restoration programs. Each year, they cultivate thousands of native desert plants to rejuvenate local habitats, and as a Plant Rescue Center, they also provide care for succulents and cacti seized from illegal trade. In collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, these efforts culminate at the Desert Plant Conservation Center, where visitors can see firsthand how rescued plants are thriving and contributing to the broader mission of safeguarding delicate desert ecosystems.
