Vermilion Flycatcher

Males are bright red with dark wings, and females have gray-brown plumage with a pink belly. They inhabit open desert scrub near water in the Mojave or Colorado deserts, perching low to dart for insects and calling quickly, often alone or in pairs. Females build small cup nests in trees near water. Though their population is stable, they are sensitive to habitat changes, and some migrate seasonally.
