An American single-engine carrier-based fighter aircraft introduced in late World War II. Designed to be the fastest piston-engine fighter of its time, the Bearcat was built by the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. It featured a powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine and had an exceptional rate of climb and maneuverability. Although it saw limited combat during WWII, the Bearcat played a significant role in post-war naval aviation and served with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps until the early 1950s. Its performance made it a favorite in air races and among warbird enthusiasts.
