Roadrunner Sculpture
Nestled at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Avenue 52 in La Quinta, California, stands an iconic 12-foot-tall, 18-foot-long metal roadrunner that once soared through the Coachella Music Festival. Originally crafted by New Mexico artist Don Kennell for the 2014 festival, this colossal metal bird wasn't just art—it was an experience, complete with a porch swing beneath its beak that invited festival-goers to take a moment and sway.
Now, this striking sculpture has a permanent perch at the heart of La Quinta, thanks to a partnership between the city and Goldenvoice, the promoter of Coachella. The city's Mayor, Linda Evans, an enthusiast of the festival’s vibrant energy, saw potential in turning this festival centerpiece into a symbol for La Quinta. With a new home in the middle of a busy traffic circle, the roadrunner stands proudly, drawing attention from locals and visitors alike. More than just a landmark, it’s a reminder of La Quinta’s dynamic relationship with Coachella, an event that has brought so much vitality to the Coachella Valley.
