Pygmy Nuthatch

Pygmy Nuthatch

Pygmy Nuthatches are tiny (about 4 inches long) pine-forest songbirds often seen in sociable flocks. They sport a grayish-brown cap, white throat, and bluish-gray back. Agile foragers move headfirst down tree trunks in search of insects and seeds. They rely on pine seeds and may roost together in winter to stay warm. Though not endangered, protecting pine habitats keeps these lively birds thriving.
