Cotino Bay Beach: Public Access & What to Expect

Cotino Bay Beach is best understood as two connected experiences:

1. A public town center with dining, shopping, wellness, entertainment, markets, and waterfront walkways.
2. A ticketed beach experience where residents and visitors can spend time on the white sand, swim, and participate in water recreation on Cotino Bay.

That combination is what makes the project unusual for the Coachella Valley. It is being planned as a place where someone might stop for coffee, shop for provisions, attend a yoga class, enjoy an open-air market, have dinner, or purchase a day ticket for a beach and water activity experience in the middle of the desert.

The official Cotino FAQ describes the town center as a lively public destination with open markets, businesses, sunny walkways, dining, shopping, and recreational activities. It also describes opportunities for play and gatherings with family and friends.

The current opening target is fall 2026, with other Cotino materials describing the project more generally as opening in late 2026. No exact opening day or grand-opening schedule has been published.

The first phase is expected to include approximately 45,000 square feet of commercial space. Additional tenant announcements are expected, and future plans include more retail space and a hotel.

Because the project is still under construction, the opening date, tenant lineup, operating hours, site plan, access policies, and amenities may change. Visitors should confirm details before making travel plans once official reservations and ticketing information become available.

Cotino Bay Beach, Dining and Shops is planned along Monterey Avenue between Gerald Ford Drive and Frank Sinatra Drive in Rancho Mirage.

The public destination will sit within the larger Cotino community and along the edge of Cotino Bay. The town center is intended to provide a more accessible way for Greater Palm Springs residents and visitors to experience the dining, shopping, recreation, and waterfront setting being developed at Cotino.

The central attraction will be Cotino Bay Beach, a planned white-sand beach where guests can relax, play, take in the mountain views, and enjoy the water.

Current official descriptions say guests will be able to purchase a day ticket to access the beach and enjoy swimming and water recreation activities. 

The site plan also identifies Cotino Bay Beach as a place to relax on the shore or participate in water sports.

The final beach experience has not yet been fully detailed. Information still to be announced includes the number of beach chairs, umbrellas, shaded areas, cabanas, restrooms, changing areas, lifeguard operations, food service on the beach, and accessibility features.

Swimming and water recreation are expected to be major parts of the experience. Official Cotino materials specifically reference watercraft such as:

• Other water recreation equipment that may be announced later

The exact rental process, operating hours, age requirements, safety rules, reservation system, and pricing have not been released. It is also not yet clear whether watercraft rentals will be included in the beach day ticket or purchased separately.

The water experience will take place on Cotino Bay, a man-made lagoon using Crystal Lagoons technology. Water levels and certain features may change over time, and final operating policies will be determined by the owner and operator of the facilities.

The town center is expected to connect shops, restaurants, recreational activities, and the waterfront through sunny walkways and a walking promenade.

The goal appears to be a place that can function beyond a traditional beach visit. Someone may be able to visit Cotino Bay Beach for a few hours, or simply stop at one of the businesses without planning a full beach day.

The exact relationship between the public walkways, restaurants, shopping areas, and ticketed beach entrance has not been announced. The town center is described as public, while beach access requires a separate fee.

An open-air artisan market is planned as part of the first phase. The current announcements do not yet identify the vendors, market schedule, seasonal events, or whether the market will operate daily or on selected dates.

The market could eventually become one of the more flexible parts of the destination, providing space for local makers, artists, specialty food vendors, seasonal events, and community gatherings. Those details remain subject to future announcements.

Four initial tenants have been announced for Cotino Bay Beach, Dining and Shops. More businesses may be added as construction and leasing progress.

Elevare is planned as the signature waterfront restaurant at Cotino Bay Beach.

The restaurant is expected to serve refined American cuisine inspired by California's relaxed food culture, with local and seasonal ingredients. Plans call for a dining room and a large outdoor terrace with views of Cotino Bay and the San Jacinto Mountains.

Current announcements describe Elevare as:

• Designed for both everyday dining and special occasions

Menus, prices, reservation procedures, wine and cocktail selections, and final operating hours have not yet been announced.

Artigiano is a Canadian specialty coffee brand opening its first United States location at Cotino.

The planned location is approximately 3,000 square feet and is expected to bring a European-inspired café atmosphere, espresso, 100 percent Arabica coffee blends, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients to the town center.

Artigiano may become an especially useful stop for people visiting the beach early in the day, walking the promenade, meeting friends, or looking for a coffee and casual meal near Cotino Bay.

Final menu items, pricing, hours, and opening date are still to be announced.

On the Mark Fine Foods & Provisions is a Palm Springs specialty market opening a second location in Rancho Mirage.

The planned 3,700-square-foot location is expected to offer:

• Artisan goods
• Premium meats and cheeses
• Made-to-order sandwiches
• Wine, craft beer
• Specialty provisions and food items

The concept could serve both beach visitors looking for something to take to the shoreline and local residents looking for prepared food, specialty groceries, or a casual place to sit and unwind.

Khaga Yoga is planned as a 2,000-square-foot wellness studio with two studios, a retail boutique, and classes for students of all levels.

The announced programming is expected to include traditional and contemporary yoga styles, as well as classes for children and families. The studio adds a wellness component to Cotino Bay Beach that extends the destination beyond dining and recreation.

Class schedules, membership options, drop-in pricing, reservations, and opening dates have not yet been released.

The public Cotino Bay Beach materials describe opportunities for play, family gatherings, sand, swimming, and water recreation. However, current official information does **not** identify a conventional public playground, splash pad, climbing structure, or dedicated children's play area within the town center.

For now, the safest expectation is that the public “play” experience will center on the beach, sand, swimming, and water activities. Families should wait for the final site plan and operating information before assuming that a traditional playground or splash area will be available.

Cotino also includes other parks and residential amenities throughout the broader community, but those should not automatically be confused with the public Cotino Bay Beach town center.

A day ticket should not be assumed to include food, drinks, yoga classes, watercraft rentals, reserved seating, cabanas, or special events until Cotino publishes the final ticket terms.

No. Purchasing a home at Cotino does not automatically grant access to Cotino Bay or its beaches.

Public beach access will require the applicable day ticket or other access arrangement. The Artisan Club is a separate voluntary membership with its own dues, fees, rules, and private amenities. Homeownership and Artisan Club membership are separate decisions.

This distinction is important for anyone considering a Cotino home. The community may offer an exceptional waterfront lifestyle, but buyers should not assume that the public beach, private club, or future amenities are automatically included in the purchase of a residence.

The two experiences may share the same lagoon setting, but they are not interchangeable. The public destination is designed as a regional dining, shopping, and recreation venue. The Artisan Club is designed as a private lifestyle club for members.

The finished experience may be different, but the planned mix suggests that Cotino Bay Beach will be designed for both short visits and full-day outings.

Cotino Bay Beach could add a new kind of public-facing destination to Rancho Mirage: a walkable waterfront town center built around a man-made beach and lagoon rather than a traditional resort pool or golf club.

The combination of dining, specialty food, coffee, yoga, artisan markets, water recreation, and mountain views gives the project a broader audience than Cotino homeowners alone. It is being positioned as a place for Greater Palm Springs locals and visitors, while also adding another lifestyle layer for the people who live inside Cotino.

The most important question is not whether the concept is interesting. It is how the final pricing, access model, hours, and operating details will shape the actual visitor experience. Those details will determine whether Cotino Bay Beach functions primarily as a beach day destination, a dining and shopping district, a special-event venue, or a combination of all three.
