Coachella Walls: Murals of Pueblo Viejo

Coachella Walls transforms the historic Pueblo Viejo district into an open-air gallery where the city’s cultural history is painted across downtown buildings. Concentrated around Sixth Street and the civic center, the collection brings together local and international artists whose murals explore farmworker history, migration, Indigenous and Mexican American identity, community strength, nature and imagination.

Visitors can discover a tribute to civil-rights leader Dolores Huerta, the mirrored figures of Lapiztola’s American Woman, Kelsey Montague’s interactive wings and other large-scale works surrounding City Hall and neighboring streets. Some murals reflect the agricultural labor that shaped the eastern Coachella Valley, while others introduce surreal creatures, vivid landscapes and contemporary expressions of local pride.

The murals are best experienced on foot, where each turn reveals another artwork integrated into Pueblo Viejo’s civic buildings, businesses and public spaces. Together, they offer a colorful introduction to the City of Coachella—one shaped not only by the world-famous festival bearing its name, but by generations of residents, workers, organizers and artists.
