Roadrunner Sculpture

Roadrunner Sculpture

Nestled at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Avenue 52 in La Quinta, California, stands an iconic 12-foot-tall, 18-foot-long metal roadrunner that once soared through the Coachella Music Festival. Originally crafted by New Mexico artist Don Kennell for the 2014 festival, this colossal metal bird wasn't just artβ€”it was an experience, complete with a porch swing beneath its beak that invited festival-goers to take a moment and sway.

Now, this striking sculpture has a permanent perch at the heart of La Quinta, thanks to a partnership between the city and Goldenvoice, the promoter of Coachella. The city's Mayor, Linda Evans, an enthusiast of the festival’s vibrant energy, saw potential in turning this festival centerpiece into a symbol for La Quinta. With a new home in the middle of a busy traffic circle, the roadrunner stands proudly, drawing attention from locals and visitors alike. More than just a landmark, it’s a reminder of La Quinta’s dynamic relationship with Coachella, an event that has brought so much vitality to the Coachella Valley.
