Hidden inside The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, California, the Bighorn Railroad is an outdoor G-scale model train exhibit that turns the Coachella Valley into a miniature world of rail lines, desert towns, landmarks, and tiny handmade scenes.
This is more than a toy train display. The exhibit sits on three-quarters of an acre with 3,300 feet of track, giving visitors a surprisingly large miniature journey through Palm Desert, Old Indio, Highway 111, Palm Springs, the Salton Sea, and other Southwest-inspired destinations. Trains move through a landscaped layout of rock formations, real desert plants, bridges, depots, theater facades, and small-town details.
Add the Bighorn Railroad to your Living Desert visit if you love model trains, local landmarks, family-friendly attractions, desert gardens, or small details that make a place feel memorable.
