Gelson’s Market is a grocery stop on Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, combining everyday shopping with prepared food, a bakery and a wine bar. For residents and visitors stocking a kitchen, it offers several ways to put together a meal in one stop.

Are there other Gelson’s markets in the Coachella Valley?

Rancho Mirage is the only Coachella Valley location listed in Gelson’s current store directory. The directory does not list separate stores in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Cathedral City, Coachella or Desert Hot Springs. If you are looking for “Gelson’s Palm Desert” or “Gelson’s Palm Springs,” the local store is at 36101 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage.

Gelson’s has other Southern California locations, including stores in the Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego areas, but those are outside the Coachella Valley. Check the official store locator when planning a trip beyond the desert.

Groceries, prepared food and a place to pause

The Rancho Mirage store lists a full-service deli, daily sushi, a bakery, coffee, cheese, flowers, hot food, soup and salad bars, plus a dining area. Those options make it worth considering for a quick lunch, dinner to take home or supplies for entertaining.

One distinctive feature is the wine and craft beer bar. It gives the market a social element alongside the grocery aisles. The bar keeps a different schedule from the main store, so check its hours before making it the reason for your visit.

A Southern California market with roots in 1951

Brothers Eugene and Bernie Gelson opened their first supermarket in Burbank in July 1951. The company’s history describes a modern store designed by architect Stiles Clements, with generous aisles and a strong emphasis on service, selection, meat and seafood.

That origin helps explain the brand’s enduring identity: a supermarket where the shopping experience and specialty departments are part of the appeal. The Rancho Mirage store brings that Southern California grocery tradition into a desert setting.

What the photographs show

Mark Miller photographed this location on October 13, 2026. The main aerial frames the market’s frontage, red-tile accents, palm trees and parking area against the mountain backdrop. A closer view records the Gelson’s sign, while the wider photograph shows the shopping center’s relationship to Bob Hope Drive and the surrounding desert development.

Together, the three images document a familiar part of everyday Rancho Mirage: the shops and services that support life between the valley’s residential neighborhoods and destinations.

Plan your stop

The main store currently lists hours of 6 a.m.–9 p.m. daily. Call (760) 770-0010 for store questions. Department schedules, holiday hours and offerings can change; the official Rancho Mirage store page is the best place to confirm details before visiting.
