Downtown Palm Springs

Downtown Palm Springs is the city’s cultural, commercial, and social center. Anchored by Palm Canyon Drive, Indian Canyon Drive, Tahquitz Canyon Way, and the surrounding side streets, the district brings together restaurants, cafés, boutiques, galleries, hotels, entertainment venues, and important civic landmarks within a relatively walkable setting.

The downtown landscape reflects several eras of Palm Springs history. Historic La Plaza, preserved midcentury-modern buildings, contemporary hotels, public art, the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars, and the Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza all contribute to a district shaped by Native history, Hollywood influence, resort culture, and Desert Modernism.

During the day, downtown attracts visitors exploring architecture, museums, shops, restaurants, and mountain views. After sunset, illuminated palms, outdoor patios, bars, and live entertainment create one of the Coachella Valley’s most active evening districts. On Thursday nights, VillageFest transforms part of Palm Canyon Drive into a pedestrian street fair with artists, vendors, food, and performers.

What distinguishes Downtown Palm Springs is the relationship between the city and its setting. The historic Palm Allée frames the streets, the San Jacinto Mountains rise immediately to the west, and layers of architecture and public space reveal how Palm Springs developed from a small desert settlement into an internationally recognized resort destination.
