Where to Golf in the Coachella Valley: Find Your Course
Find a round that fits your game, your day and your trip. Compare 44 Coachella Valley course profiles, check seasonal notices and build your shortlist.
Choose a round that fits your game, your day and your trip. Start with access and location, narrow by the experience you want, then compare the actual cost.
- 44 course and facility profiles across eight valley cities, including separate entries for named layouts at multi-course resorts.
- Find your fit: short courses, more forgiving full rounds, scenic resort golf and demanding championship tests.
- Plan the whole day: course access, tee selection, rental clubs, practice, cart policies, maintenance and the drive from your base.
- Compare up to three choices and enter real quotes to see the cost per golfer and for your group.
Research reviewed September 18, 2026. This is a visitor decision guide, not a live tee sheet or a census of every private course. “Best fit” labels are editorial judgments based on course information; they are not firsthand reviews or handicap requirements.
Start with the experience
What would make this a great round?
There is no single best course for every golfer. These are useful starting points for your shortlist.
01
A comfortable first round
Start with Mountain View at Desert Willow, Escena, Indian Canyons South or San Gorgonio at Mountain Vista. Study the forward tees before deciding.
02
Make the scenery the event
Compare PGA WEST Mountain, SilverRock, Indian Wells Celebrity and Terra Lago North. Choose the setting, then check how demanding the required shots will be.
03
Keep the spend in perspective
Begin with short courses and community courses, then compare actual tee times. A late-day resort rate can sometimes change the value equation.
04
A shorter day on the course
Compare Palm Royale, The Oasis, Cimarron Pebble and Shadow Hills North. Their lengths and hazards differ substantially; choose the right kind of short.
05
Put your game to the test
Start with PGA WEST Stadium or Nicklaus Tournament, Firecliff, Classic Club or Indian Wells Players. Pick tees you can play comfortably.
06
Play after daytime plans
The Lights at Indio offers night-lighted golf. Confirm the evening’s last start, operating hours and weather before fitting it around dinner.
Make your shortlist
Find your course.
Search by name, choose a part of the valley or filter for the round you want. Open a profile for the useful details, then add up to three courses to compare.
44 profiles
Fit and spending labels are editorial starting points, not guaranteed price bands.
No matches for this combination.
Clear a filter, widen the location or include call-first entries. A broader shortlist gives you more rates to compare.

The true cost of your round
Compare your final three.
Use the same playing date and similar start times. Enter the quote you actually found, then add only the charges that are extra. A bundled cart or range fee should not be counted twice.
All amounts are in USD. The calculator assumes the same per-person costs for every golfer and one round. Shared transport is added once to the group total and split equally for the per-golfer estimate. A blank extra is treated as zero; the result is only as complete as your entries.
Your shortlist starts in the finder.
Use the Compare button on up to three course profiles. Their trade-offs, booking terms and quote calculators will appear here.
Understand the quote
One course. Different dates. Very different prices.
Many operators use dynamic pricing. The exact day, start time, season, booking channel and eligibility category can change what you pay. These published examples show why a single valley-wide price ranking would be misleading.
Palm Royale
$42 / $32Published 2026/27 season rates: before 1 pm / after 1 pm, November 2–April 11. A walking-only par-3 round. Push cart and club rental are separate.

Check dates and inclusionsExamples reviewed September 18, 2026; subject to change. They are not quotes for every available tee time or for dates outside the listed windows.
Compare what is included.
Check the cart, range balls, rental set, taxes, booking fees and any food credit. A food voucher has value only if you will use it under its rules. Classic Club says most bookings include a $25 food-and-beverage voucher; confirm yours qualifies.
Club rentals can materially change the total: Desert Willow publishes $75 per set; JW Desert Springs publishes $75 plus tax. For a multi-round trip, compare the combined rental bill with bringing your clubs.
Compare the terms, too.
A discounted prepaid tee time can have different cancellation rules from a standard reservation. Check the seller’s terms before payment, including no-shows, weather, partial rounds and booking fees.
Resident, passholder and member prices require the correct eligibility. Staying in a vacation rental does not by itself establish that you qualify for a city’s resident golf rate.

Choose the date as carefully as the course
The desert has a golf calendar of its own.
Winter & spring
Start researching your preferred time early, especially for a group or a signature round. Check tournament and private-event blocks. An early start may bring cold air or a frost delay; a late start gives you less usable daylight.
Summer
Lower green fees can come with major heat and reduced operating hours. Plan around the actual forecast and the operator’s final start and cart-return times. Choose an earlier, shorter outing or change the day when conditions warrant.
Fall transition
Overseeding may close a course for weeks. Reopening can be followed by cart-path restrictions, slower turf or limited practice access. Ask about both the course and the driving range.
Wind & daily conditions
Check a forecast for the course location, including gusts. Different corners of the valley can feel different. Ask the golf shop about current conditions; a course’s reputation for shelter is not a guarantee.
Published notices that can change a trip
- Desert Willow Mountain View: September 21–October 22, 2026; scheduled reopening October 23. Practice facilities also appear in that closure notice.
- Desert Willow Firecliff: November 9–December 25, 2026; scheduled reopening December 26.
- Escena: September 28–October 29; the current season notice schedules reopening October 30, 2026.
- SilverRock: closes October 12; scheduled reopening October 30, 2026, with cart paths only through November 24.
- Shadow Hills: South posts a November 6 reopening after its refresh; North posts November 9–December 11, 2026, with reopening December 12.
- Indian Canyons North: a temporary closure is posted without a verified reopening date.
These are selected published notices, not a complete closure calendar. The finder flags the unambiguous dated notices we recorded. Other courses and private events require separate checks.
Call where the source is unclear. PGA WEST / La Quinta Resort’s maintenance page contains conflicting ranges. Trilogy’s October 12–November 8 notice omits the year, and Desert Falls’ October notice also needs confirmation. This guide links to those notices without turning ambiguous text into a definite calendar rule.

For heat planning, follow the National Weather Service’s heat guidance. Check conditions again on the day, and make stopping or shortening the round part of your plan.
Keep the travel day simple
Start with where you are staying.
“Palm Springs golf” often means the whole Coachella Valley. Use the actual course location and your hotel or rental address when comparing travel. The map link in each profile opens a course search; verify the correct clubhouse before setting directions.
Palm Springs & Cathedral City
Start with Escena, Indian Canyons, Tahquitz Creek, Cimarron, Cathedral Canyon and Desert Princess. These are useful first comparisons for a west-valley base.
Desert Hot Springs
Mission Lakes has confirmed public access. Resort short courses in this area need separate eligibility checks; Caliente Springs limits its course to specified residents and guests.
Rancho Mirage
Compare Mission Hills North and the Westin Pete Dye Resort course. Rancho Las Palmas needs direct access confirmation because its own page gives conflicting answers.
Palm Desert & Indian Wells
A central base gives you a broad set of comparisons: Desert Willow, Classic Club, JW Desert Springs, the two Indian Wells Golf Resort courses and numerous community courses.
La Quinta & Indio
Start with PGA WEST, SilverRock, Trilogy, Eagle Falls, Terra Lago, Shadow Hills, Big Rock, Indian Palms and the short-course choices at Palm Royale and The Lights.
Coachella & communities farther east
Compare the Indio and La Quinta options from your exact lodging location. No separate public course in Coachella city was verified for this edition.
The details that decide the day
Choose the round your group can enjoy.
Ability & the right tees
Look beyond the course’s longest yardage. Compare a tee you would actually play, its required carries and the length of its par 3s. A demanding layout from forward tees may suit you better than a supposedly easy course played too long.
Course Rating and Slope are tied to specific tees and rating categories. Use the current scorecard or official rating, not a single number copied from an old directory. Ask the shop which tees suit your normal driving and iron distances.
For a new golfer, the most useful first outing may be a lesson, range session or short course. A short course still requires basic etiquette and keeping pace. Shadow Hills North’s published 135–210-yard holes ask something different from Palm Royale’s much shorter total layout.
Time & the pace of play
Allow for driving, check-in, warming up, the round and the return trip. Published pace targets are not guarantees. Desert Willow posts 4 hours 19 minutes; Classic Club posts 4 hours 20 minutes. Palm Royale expects its short walking round in 2½ hours or less.
Twilight is a discounted starting time, not a promise to finish. Confirm the course’s cutoff, not just sunset. A 27-hole property typically sells an 18-hole rotation unless your booking says otherwise.
Walking, carts & mobility
Palm Royale is explicitly walking only. Elsewhere, confirm whether golfers may walk, whether a cart is bundled, and whether extra carts are available. A shared-cart rate does not promise a private cart.
Ask how far you will need to walk under cart-path-only rules. Tell the course what accommodation you need before booking. Desert Willow lists SoloRider adaptive carts by advance request, subject to confirmation.
Clubs, practice & companions
Reserve the correct handedness and ask about available flexes, junior sets and pricing. Do not assume club sharing is allowed. Confirm range access and hours separately from your tee time, especially during maintenance.
Ask about the exact junior age policy and non-playing riders. Classic Club prohibits non-playing riders; JW Desert Springs lists a rider fee. If someone wants to join only for lunch, verify restaurant hours and make a separate plan.
A community’s 55+ residential status does not by itself tell you its visitor golf policy. Use the operator’s golf rules, not the housing label.
A practical booking checklist
- Which exact course and rotation am I reserving, and am I eligible for this rate?
- Is the full layout open? When were the greens aerated or overseeded, and are carts restricted?
- Which tees and required carries fit our group? Are there junior or beginner restrictions?
- What is the full price including cart, rental clubs, tax and booking fees?
- Is practice available before the round? What is the correct arrival time and clubhouse?
- What are the cancellation, weather, no-show and twilight terms?
- Are non-playing riders permitted, and is the restaurant open when we finish?

Explore the visual guideFive common questions
Before you reserve.
What is the best golf course to play in the Coachella Valley?
Start with the experience you want. For a more forgiving full round, compare Desert Willow Mountain View, Escena and Indian Canyons South. For a demanding test, investigate PGA WEST Stadium, Firecliff or Indian Wells Players. Check your date, tee selection and total quote before deciding.
Can visitors play golf without staying at a resort or joining a club?
Many of the courses in the finder have a public visitor booking route, including Desert Willow, PGA WEST’s five resort courses, Escena and Trilogy La Quinta. Call-first entries are clearly marked. Private clubs and resident-only courses have different rules; access is course-specific.
Which courses work for beginners or a shorter outing?
Palm Royale, The Oasis, Cimarron Pebble, Shadow Hills North and The Lights at Indio are useful short-course comparisons. Check length and hazards: short courses are not equally easy. Palm Royale requires walking, and Shadow Hills North includes substantial par-3 lengths. Lessons may be a better first step for a completely new player.
How much should I budget, and should I bring my clubs?
Use actual quotes for your dates. Include cart charges, rental clubs, tax, booking fees and transport. Compare the published seasonal examples above, then use the shortlist calculator. For several rounds, compare the combined rental bill with the cost and convenience of traveling with your own clubs.
When should I book, and how do I avoid maintenance surprises?
Book once your travel dates and preferred course are clear, following that operator’s window. Desert Willow and Classic Club publish up to 60 days; Escena and Eagle Falls publish up to 30. Before payment, check the exact layout’s closure notice, greens work, cart restrictions and cancellation terms. Reconfirm before the day of play.
Sources, scope & how to use this guide
Operator course pages, booking-policy pages and maintenance notices are the primary sources. The SCGA directory supports the Shadow Mountain call-first entry. Source pages were reviewed September 18, 2026; this was desk research, with no tee times purchased and no phone confirmations.
Facts about facilities and access are separated from editorial suggestions about who may enjoy a course. Spending styles are search strategies, not measured price bands. Course quality, green speeds, pace and weather are not treated as verified day-of-play conditions.
Multi-nine properties such as Desert Princess and Indian Palms appear once; separately bookable named courses such as Firecliff and Mountain View appear separately. The finder emphasizes visitor decisions and excludes private and unverified resident-only options from ordinary public recommendations.
Where official sources conflict, the uncertainty is shown. We do not convert an undated notice into a confirmed closure, repeat old directory prices as current, or treat an empty tee sheet as proof of permanent closure.
