From the Atlas
Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer
The PB4Y-2 Privateer was a U.S. Navy patrol bomber developed from the B-24 Liberator. Its design was adapted for long-range maritime work, with a stretched fuselage and a single vertical tail.
What to look for
The tall single tail is a useful identifying feature when comparing a Privateer with the twin-tailed Liberator. After military service, some Privateers were converted to civilian firefighting tankers, adding another chapter to the type’s history.
