The T-28 was developed to replace the T-6 trainer and first flew in 1949. Its tricycle landing gear helped prepare pilots for newer aircraft. Air Force and Navy versions used different engines, and the design later served in additional military roles.

What to look for

The round engine cowling, tandem cockpit and nose wheel distinguish the Trojan from many of the tailwheel fighters seen at aviation museums. These features reflect its original purpose as a training aircraft.
