JFK Memorial Hospital is an acute-care hospital at Monroe Street and Dr. Carreon Boulevard in Indio. For eastern Coachella Valley residents, seasonal visitors and families, it is a place for emergency evaluation, hospital care, childbirth and scheduled services. This guide brings together the details that matter before arriving, with original aerial photographs showing how the hospital fits into the surrounding medical district.

For a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Do not wait for an online check-in time or use this guide to decide whether an emergency can wait.

Start here: address and useful contacts

  • Hospital: JFK Memorial Hospital, also called John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.
  • Address: 47111 Monroe Street, Indio, CA 92201.
  • Main hospital: 760-347-6191. Ask for the department, patient unit or service you need.
  • Emergency department: open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Medical records: 760-775-8044; fax 760-775-8054.
  • Hospital patient-portal support: 888-241-9945.

Start with the official JFK hospital page for the current facility directory. Administrative offices and scheduled departments do not necessarily share the emergency department's round-the-clock hours.

Getting there, parking and finding the right entrance

The hospital stands on the west side of Monroe Street, just south of Dr. Carreon Boulevard. The photographs show several buildings, parking areas and internal drives, so the most useful preparation is to confirm the exact department and entrance for your visit. A hospital address, a physician's office address and a neighboring laboratory address can bring you to different destinations.

For emergency care, follow the hospital's Emergency signs. For a scheduled procedure, imaging appointment, admission or maternity visit, follow the arrival instructions from that department. The close aerial photograph in the gallery shows the emergency entrance and adjacent ambulance access; leave ambulance routes, fire lanes and marked access areas clear.

Parking areas surround the campus. Use the spaces designated for your destination and follow current signs. If walking distance, a wheelchair, a mobility aid or assistance getting from the vehicle to the entrance is a concern, call ahead to arrange the appropriate arrival plan. Confirm current parking arrangements directly with the hospital; this guide does not promise a particular lot, valet service or parking fee.

From Interstate 10, Monroe Street provides a route south into this part of Indio. Check live navigation for your starting point and traffic conditions. Festival weekends and other busy periods can affect travel through the city; allow additional time for a scheduled appointment.

Hospital services and emergency capabilities

JFK is part of Desert Care Network and Tenet Healthcare. Its official facility profile lists 145 beds, Joint Commission accreditation and the following services:

  • Emergency care and Level IV trauma services.
  • Stroke care: a Primary Stroke Center.
  • Cardiovascular services: including an accredited chest-pain program.
  • Orthopedics and joint replacement.
  • Diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology.
  • Maternity and pediatric services.

These are hospital-level service descriptions, not a guarantee that every test, procedure or specialist is available on demand. For planned care, confirm that the service is performed at JFK in Indio, who will perform it, and whether a referral, authorization or advance appointment is needed. Desert Care Network also has facilities elsewhere in the region.

A Level IV trauma designation does not mean that every complex injury is treated entirely at this hospital. The appropriate care setting and any transfer are determined by the clinical team. The network identifies Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs as its Level I trauma center. In an emergency, let emergency responders direct your care rather than choosing a longer drive based only on a designation.

Read the network's emergency-care information. An online ER check-in option is linked from JFK's official page; it should never delay urgent evaluation or be treated as a guarantee of immediate treatment.

Preparing for a scheduled visit or hospital stay

Keep the department's instructions together with your appointment confirmation. Before leaving home, establish the arrival time, check-in location, ordering clinician and a contact number for questions. If sedation or a procedure is involved, ask the care team about transportation home and any required adult support afterward.

The hospital network's packing guidance includes:

  • Government-issued identification and insurance information.
  • A complete medication list, including nonprescription products, vitamins and supplements.
  • Relevant outside test results or images requested by the care team.
  • A copy of an advance directive, if you have one.
  • Cases for glasses, contacts or dentures, a phone charger, and appropriate personal items for an overnight stay.

Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary valuables and large amounts of cash at home. Ask your clinical team for instructions about eating, drinking and medication before a procedure; those instructions depend on the planned care. Review the official hospital packing guidance and use the patient resource center for pre-registration links.

Visiting a patient

Desert Care Network publishes an open-visitation approach, subject to the patient's wishes, clinical needs and unit restrictions. That is not a promise of unrestricted access to every area at every hour. Before visiting, call the hospital and ask the patient's unit about the current entrance, visitor limits, children, overnight support and any infection-control requirements.

Patients may choose who visits and may decline visits. Staff may limit access to protect rest, privacy, treatment or infection prevention. Supervise children, clean your hands when entering and leaving a room, and postpone a visit if you are ill.

Ask staff before bringing flowers, outside food, gifts or recording equipment into a clinical area. If several people want updates, choosing one family contact can make communication easier while respecting the patient's preferences. The hospital's visitation policy explains the underlying rules.

For cafeteria or café hours, after-hours refreshments, public restrooms and the nearest waiting area, ask the information desk or patient unit. These practical details can change and are best confirmed for the day of your visit.

Pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care

JFK's maternity information describes a 15-bed unit with private labor-and-delivery rooms, breastfeeding support and access to a lactation consultant. It also describes newborn and pediatric care provided by Loma Linda University Health pediatricians, support for early parent–baby bonding, and keeping mother and newborn together when clinically appropriate.

For expecting families, a useful first step is a hospital tour. JFK's official event listings include English- and Spanish-language labor-and-delivery tours. Check current dates, registration requirements and availability rather than assuming a tour runs on a fixed schedule.

Discuss your birth preferences, support people, doula arrangements, arrival instructions and any pregnancy-specific concerns with your obstetric team in advance. Ask which services are provided at JFK and whether a different facility is planned for higher-risk care. The network identifies a maternal-fetal medicine program at Desert Regional; that does not mean every pregnancy requires care there.

Explore JFK's maternity information and find current tours through the hospital event listings.

Language assistance and accessibility

The network states that interpreter services and communication aids are available without charge, including qualified sign-language interpretation. Ask a nurse or other hospital staff member for assistance. Tell the scheduling team about language, hearing, vision or mobility needs before a planned visit so they can help arrange support.

A family member can be an important support person, but you can request the hospital's interpreter service for medical conversations. For detailed assistance, see the official language and communication-services information.

Medical records and patient portal

The hospital patient portal can provide access to available results, medications, discharge summaries and other records. It may not contain every document or every outside physician's record. For JFK portal-account help, call 888-241-9945; use the official portal page to reach the correct login or enrollment option.

For a formal copy of JFK records, contact Health Information Management at 760-775-8044. The published fax number is 760-775-8054. The network provides a JFK-specific release form and asks for the appropriate signed authorization and identification. It advises allowing 14 business days for processing and notes that copying fees may apply.

If you need records for an upcoming appointment, tell the records team the appointment date and receiving clinician. If you need the actual imaging files, ask for those specifically rather than assuming a written radiology report includes the images. Begin with the medical-records request page.

Insurance, estimates and financial assistance

For scheduled care, verify coverage with both your insurer and the hospital. Give them your exact plan name and the planned service; a familiar insurance-company name alone is not enough to establish coverage. Ask about authorization, referrals, the clinician's network status and the expected patient portion. Use current plan information rather than an old directory or a general hospital listing.

Ask whether the estimate includes the hospital and all participating clinicians. Keep your estimate, insurance explanation of benefits and billing statements together, and use the contact printed on each statement when asking about a charge.

The network offers information about financial assistance, uninsured discounts, payment arrangements and help identifying possible coverage. Ask Patient Access or the billing team about eligibility and the application process. Assistance depends on the applicable program and your circumstances; it should not be assumed from a general description.

Use the official patient resource center for insurance, price-estimate and bill-payment links, or go directly to help paying your bill. Send personal, medical and payment information through the hospital's verified channels.

The hospital and its neighboring medical offices

The aerial photographs show a broader medical district around JFK. Some buildings contain separate practices and services, and proximity does not establish hospital ownership. Quest Diagnostics lists a location at 81715 Dr. Carreon Boulevard; Coachella Valley Nephrology lists offices at 81719. The Medallion Medical Building at 81767 is a separate medical-office property near the hospital.

If your appointment is with a physician, laboratory, pharmacy or another outpatient provider, check the building address and suite number on the appointment confirmation. Confirm that provider's hours, insurance arrangements, records process and parking instructions directly. A referral to a doctor who is affiliated with JFK does not necessarily mean the appointment takes place inside the hospital.

From Indio Community Hospital to JFK

The hospital began serving the valley in 1966 as Indio Community Hospital. Dr. Reynaldo Carreón was among its founders, and the adjoining boulevard preserves his name.

The Carreón Foundation describes his earlier work providing medical care to underserved residents of the eastern valley and his donation of land for the hospital. That history connects this campus to a larger local story: building access to care in a growing agricultural community. Today's hospital remains an important physical landmark within Indio's medical district.

Through Mark's camera

These seven original photographs were captured by Mark Miller on October 29, 2026. The gallery includes broad views of the hospital and nearby streets, closer views of campus buildings, and the emergency entrance. The wider images place JFK within Indio and the surrounding mountain landscape; neighboring buildings visible in a photograph should not automatically be interpreted as hospital facilities.
