Cimarron Golf Resort brings together two public golf courses and a setting that makes you look up between shots. Near Palm Springs in Cathedral City, its open landscape gives the surrounding mountains room to dominate the view. Desert planting, sandy edges and passing wildlife add a sense of place that extends well beyond the greens.
A morning at Cimarron: the insider perspective
I visited Cimarron on September 26, 2026 as a spectator and photographer at a high-level amateur golf tournament, following Division I golfer Zeke Anderson. What stayed with me was the beauty of the setting. Watching the players move through this landscape, with mountains filling the background, made the morning as rewarding for photography as it was for watching golf.
From the places I walked, the course felt open and elevated, with long views across the valley. I could pick out the San Jacinto, Santa Rosa, San Bernardino and Little San Bernardino mountains, along with the Indio Hills. That feeling of being surrounded by the valley’s mountain landscape was the highlight of the visit. The outlook changes as you move around the course, and distant ridgelines depend on visibility.
I also loved the way the desert landscaping was incorporated into the course. I spotted two jackrabbits and a variety of birds, and some stretches had the same feeling I enjoy on a desert hike: native-looking vegetation, open ground and wildlife going about its day. It was a beautiful morning outdoors, with excellent golf unfolding in the middle of it.

Two ways to play
Boulder Course: Cimarron’s championship layout is listed at par 71 and 6,747 yards from the Cimarron tees. Multiple tee options let golfers choose a suitable distance.
Pebble Course: The shorter executive layout is listed at par 55, ranging from 2,237 to 3,007 yards. It offers a shorter alternative to Boulder while retaining the mountain setting.

Use the course’s booking links for current rates and availability. On the Rocks, Cimarron’s restaurant, offers another place to enjoy the fairway and mountain views; check directly for current dining hours. If you plan to attend a tournament as a spectator or photographer, confirm access and photography rules with the organizer.
