Shadow Mountain Resort & Club brings several layers of Palm Desert together: the historic figure-eight pool, an active tennis and pickleball setting, resort accommodations and an established neighborhood just south of El Paseo. Mark Miller’s photographs, captured October 15, 2026, show the pool, court complex and surrounding development as they look today.
A historic setting south of El Paseo
The pool is the visual anchor. From above, its curved outline stands out among palms, lawns and low-rise buildings, with the Santa Rosa Mountains framing the wider setting. El Paseo’s shops, galleries and restaurants are close enough to make this a useful base for exploring central Palm Desert.
Shadow Mountain’s story reaches back to the city’s early development. The Historical Society of Palm Desert dates the club’s formal grand opening to December 10, 1948. Read Shadow Mountain Club: The Pool That Helped Build Palm Desert for the fuller account of the pool, clubhouse and their relationship to early home sales.
The figure-eight pool
The resort continues to identify its figure-eight pool as a signature feature. These photographs document the contemporary pool and its surroundings; they are not archival views of the original club. Pool access depends on the applicable resort, membership or guest arrangement. Confirm what your reservation or membership includes before arriving.
Tennis, pickleball and today’s court scene
The aerial court photograph shows why racquet sports are such a visible part of Shadow Mountain. Tennis and pickleball share this larger recreation setting, and the resort also advertises padel. The current court operation is branded TTC Palms at Shadow Mountain.
For court reservations, lessons, clinics, visitor play and membership options, check directly with TTC Palms or call the pro shop at 760-346-6126. Programs, pricing and access arrangements can change. Do not assume the courts are a free public park facility or that every independently booked rental includes the same privileges.
Staying here and considering a home
The resort offers studios, condominiums and villas. For a stay, ask the booking provider to identify the exact unit, included facilities and any separate recreation fees. For a purchase, review the specific property’s HOA documents, dues, rental rules and club-access arrangements rather than treating “Shadow Mountain” as one uniform package.
The adjacent Shadow Mountain Golf Club has a connected history but separate facilities and arrangements. This page’s photographs focus on the resort pool and court complex; a golf-course view does not establish golf privileges.
